Privacy Policy

Annaachi (“we”, “the app”) is a voice-first ordering platform that connects customers with neighbourhood grocery shops (“Annaachis”). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled. By using Annaachi you agree to this policy.
1. Data we collect
From everyone
- Phone number — used as your account identity. We send an OTP via WhatsApp (or SMS in future) to verify it.
- Name — collected only after you've verified your phone, used to label your account and orders.
- Device push token (FCM) — generated by Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging on your device, used to send order-related notifications.
From customers
- Approximate or precise GPS location — used while you have the app open, to find Annaachis near you. Stored once per session as your “last known location” so we can show shops even on a later session when GPS is off.
- Voice recordings — your phone's built-in speech recogniser converts your voice to text on the device itself. Audio is never sent to our servers; only the resulting text is.
- Order history — items you ordered, prices, payment method, timestamps. Used to show your past orders and inform the Annaachi about repeat purchases.
From merchants (“Annaachis”)
- Shop name, address, UPI ID, category — used to display your shop to nearby customers.
- Order history — orders received, prices set, payments received. Used for your own bookkeeping inside the app.
2. How we use the data
- Service delivery: showing nearby Annaachis to customers, routing orders between parties, sending order-status notifications, processing UPI payment intents.
- Trust signals: counting cancelled orders per (customer × Annaachi) so the Annaachi can choose to require upfront payment from previously-cancelled customers.
- Aggregated analytics: order volumes, popular items per area — never tied to individual users.
3. Sharing
- Order details are shared between the customer who placed the order and the Annaachi who received it. No third parties.
- We do not sell data to advertisers, marketers, or data brokers.
- Push notifications travel through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (subject to Google's privacy terms).
- OTP delivery uses Meta WhatsApp Business API (subject to Meta's privacy terms).
- UPI payment is initiated through your installed UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, etc.); the transaction is between your bank and the Annaachi's bank — we do not touch the money.
4. Storage and security
- Phone numbers, names, shop details, and orders are stored on our PostgreSQL servers hosted in India.
- All client–server traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- We retain account data while your account is active. Delete-account requests (see contact below) remove your row from our database; order history that's already been delivered to the other party is retained for their bookkeeping.
5. Children
Annaachi is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
6. Your rights
- Access: ask us for a copy of your data.
- Correction: update your name / shop details in-app, or write to us.
- Deletion: write to us — see below.
- Withdraw consent: uninstalling the app stops new data collection; written deletion request removes prior data.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be highlighted in-app on next launch.
